When I extract one of the installation zip files on my Windows 10 PC I get this error that says: Error 0x80010135 path too long. What I have come to know is that Windows cannot accept file paths longer than 260 characters. Now, we have no control over the files contained in the ZIP archive as they have not yet been extracted and therefore we cannot rename them to get rid of this error 0x80010135. But surely I can tell you an easy way to fix this error immediately.

Method 1: try to extract it to the root folder

Step 1 - First of all, rename the file to a short version. This will reduce the file name of the root directory.

Step 2- Now copy and move the file to C: folder . The idea is to try extracting the file to a root folder to reduce the path size.

3 pass - Now, extract your zip file to a new location. You won't face any problems.

Method 2: change the Windows 10 260 character limit

Step 1 - cercare regedit in the Windows 10 taskbar search.

Step 2 - now go to the location given below from the left menu in the registry editor.

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  • SYSTEM
  • CurrentControlSet
  • Control
  • File System

Step 3 - Now on the right side of the registry editor, look for an item called LongPathsEnabled. Right click on it.

4 pass - Now select Modify and change the value of zero by 1.

5 pass- Finally, restart your Windows 10 PC for the changes to take effect.
