If you have the problem of not being able to open File Explorer in Windows 10, you don't need to worry about the same. It is just a normal problem that many users have been facing since they upgraded their old version of Windows to the latest version.

Here are some steps that may help you fix the problem.

Method 1: change the display settings

Step 1: Simultaneously press the Windows icon on the keyboard along with "i" to open the settings window. From there, select the System option.



Step 2: In the View submenu, change the text size to 100%, 125% or 200% respectively. Don't keep it at 175%. It is more likely to be the cause of the problem.

check if the file explorer opens or not.

Method 2: Check for faulty programs

Some users have seen that the use of various antivirus has caused this error. Once closed from the Task Manager, File Explorer will open again.

You should also do the same in case there is some kind of regular activity on your PC.

Method 3: restart the application in the Task Manager

Step 2: Right-click on the Windows Explorer option and select End Task.

Step 4: Type explorer.exe in the box and click Enter.

Method 4: clear the history cache and create a new path

Step 1: Right-click on the File Explorer option and select the option that says Unlock from Taskbar.



Step 2: Click the Windows key and the “X” at the same time and click File Explorer from the displayed list.

Step 3: Right-click on the Quick Access link from there and select Options.

Step 4: Next, click on the General tab in the pop-up menu, then select the Delete option in the Privacy subsection. Therefore, the File Explorer search history will be completely cleared.


Step 4: Right click on the blank space on your desktop and select the Shortcut option from the New option.

Step 5: Enter the address as shown below and click Next.

Step 6: Rename the file in File Explorer and click Next. Then, you will be asked to enter the file name accordingly. Click Finish.

Step 7: Right-click on the newly created shortcut, then click Pin to Taskbar


This should be able to solve your problem.

Method 5: disable Windows Search

Step 1: Open Command Prompt from the search box and right click on the option to select Run as administrator.

Step 2: Click YES in the window that appears below

Step 3: In the Command Prompt window, type the command marked in red below and click the Enter button.

If you stop Windows search completely, you can follow the steps below. These are:

  1. Press Windows key + R at the same time. After the pop-up window opens, type the following command.
  1. detect the Windows search option and double-click it to open its properties.

3. On the properties tab, change the startup type to Disabled and click OK.

Things on your PC would look a lot better now and even if they aren't, you should perform a clean update of your system. Your problem would be solved in an instant.
