You may have come across a situation where the volume control button is missing from the taskbar. This can create problems when you try to watch your favorite YouTube video or audio of your choice. The problem occurs when the icon is grayed out and cannot be opened. You can make some changes to the Settings and fix this problem. If that doesn't work, you can use Task Manager or Group Policy Editor to fix it. This post explains how to use all three methods in simple steps.

First, let's see how we can reset the volume button by activating some options in Settings. Follow the steps below

  • Click on the Windows icon and open settings.

  • Click on Notifications and actions.

  • On the right side of the window, click Turn system icons on or off.

Toggle button next to Volume Turn it on.

Alternative method to open settings

You can also open the settings using an alternative method. Because of this:

  • Right-click anywhere on the taskbar. Click on Property.

  • In the taskbar and Start menu properties window that opens, click Customize corresponding to the notification area. This will open Settings.

  • More clicks Turn system icons on or off.
  • Toggle button next to Volume.

If that doesn't work, try restarting Explorer. That is how:

  • The right mouse button anywhere on the taskbar. Open Task Manager.

  • Click on explorer.exe and click Final task beneath.

  • Then click Fillet followed by Run a new activity.

  • In the Create New Task window that opens, type explorer.exe and click all right.

If Explorer crashes frequently and you need to restart it, you can create a shortcut and keep. This can be helpful. Because of this:

  • Open a notepad file and type the following command in it:

  • Click on Fillet followed by Save eat.

  • Choose Save As Type As All files and then save the file with the extension . Beat.

This will create an icon on the desktop. Click on it every time you want to restart your browser.

  • Click Win + R to start Run. Gender gpedit.msc in the given field. Click all right.

  • Expand Administrative models. Then click Start menu and taskbar.
  • On the right side, stain Remove the volume control icon. Double click on it.

  • Verify that the setting is Not configured o Disabled. Click all right.

One of these settings should ideally return the volume control icon to normal operation.
