Gmail how to activate email preview pane. MS Outlook and the Mail application in Windows 10 have something in common; a preview pane. The user interface has three columns; mailboxes / folders, emails in a mailbox, and a preview pane.
When you select an email from the email message list, you get a preview of it in the preview pane.
A lot of desktop email clients have this same user interface. Thunderdbird and Mail on MacOS are no different.
If you like this particular layout, but prefer to use Gmail web, it's possible. To activate a preview pane in Gmail just activate an experimental feature called the preview pane. That's how.
Gmail how to activate email preview pane
Open Gmail in your browser. Click the button under your profile picture and select 'Settings' from the menu. Go to the 'Labs' tab on the Settings page.
Look for the experimental function preview pane and enable it. Click 'Save Changes' at the bottom of the page and return to your inbox.
The mailbox will be the same as before. The preview pane function has been activated, but it needs to be turned on.
You will find a new button next to the gear button on the left depicted with three horizontal lines click on it and select 'Vertical split'.
The mailbox will be divided into three columns. The first column lists your mailboxes; your primary inbox, starred messages, messages you marked important, etc.
The second column will list all the emails in the selected mailbox.
The third column is the preview pane. Select an email from the second column and you will be able to preview it in the pane.
This layout is similar to the layout of MS Outlook and Mail app. If you prefer the Thunderbird layout ie the preview pane that appears below the list of emails, switch to horizontal split view. You can switch to horizontal split view from the same key used to switch to vertical split view.
