Google contacts: Import, restore or backup your contacts. Here is a guide on how to do all these operations on computers and smartphones.

Google contacts view on mobile device

Android

When you add your Google account to your Android phone or tablet, the contacts sync automatically.

If you use a Google account for work or school, to be able to see all the details, such as qualifications.

Note: contacts can only be synced with a Mac computer.

  1. Open the Contacts application from a Mac computer.
  2. At the top left, click Contact us Pref Renze.
  3. Click on the tab Account.
  4. Click add lower left.
  5. Select Google, then click Continue.
  6. Enter your email and password. If you use two-step verification,.
  7. Click on NEXT.
  8. Select Contact us.
  9. Click on end.

Iphone /iPad

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Toccata Contact us    Account    Add account    Google.
  3. Enter your email and password. If you use two-step verification,.
  4. Toccata NEXT.
  5. Activate "Contacts".
  6. Toccata Save up.

To start syncing, open the Contacts app on your iPhone or iPad.

If you have a work or school Google account

Some details may not be synchronized, such as qualifications listed in a company's directory. To sync all the details, find out how.


Google contacts don't sync

Make sure your Google account is connected to your iPhone or iPad via SSL, the recommended secure connection.


  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Toccata Contact us   Account.
  3. Tap your Google account.
  4. Activate "Contacts".
  5. Toccata Account    Advanced.
  6. Enable "Use SSL".
  7. Toccata Account   end.
  8. Try adding the account again.

Import contacts

If you have any contact lists you'd like to use in Gmail, you can import them into Google Contacts.

Note: when you import the details of a person who is already in your Google contacts, the imported contact replaces the existing one.

  1. Go to .
  2. On the left, click Other  Import.
  3. Select the account you want to import contacts from.
  4. Click on I agree, let's proceed.
  5. Log into your email account. Note: if you use two-step verification with Apple, do a search to find out how you can create a specific Apple password to import contacts into Google.
  6. Click on Accept.

Step 1: Export existing Gmail contacts to a CSV file

  1. Go to .
  2. At the top left, click Other Export.
  3. Select the contacts to export.
  • “Personal Contacts” includes the contacts you have created.
  • “All Contacts” includes the contacts you have created and to whom you have emailed.
  1. Select the Google CSV format.
  2. Click on Export.
  3. At the top right, click the photo and then click Logout.

Step 2: Import the file

  1. Go to .
  2. At the top left, click Other Import.
  3. Click on Choose file.
  4. Select the CSV file.
  5. Click on Import.

Add a single contact

  1. Go to .
  2. At the bottom right, click Add . If you don't see the Add option , you can use the older version of Contacts to add contacts.
  3. Enter contact information.
  4. Click on Save.

Google contacts: Merge duplicates

If there are multiple cards for the same person in Google Contacts, you can merge them.



  1. Go to .
  2. On the left, click Duplicates. If you don't see the option Duplicates, you can use the older version of Contacts to merge contacts.
  3. At the top right, click Merge them all. Alternatively, check for any duplicates and click Merge.

Google contacts: Restore or export contacts

If you have deleted, synced, imported or merged contacts in the last 30 days, you can undo the changes to recover the contacts.

Note: when you restore contacts to a defined date, such as a week ago, contacts added after that date will not be displayed. Learn more about how and later.

  1. Go to .
  2. Click on Other  Annulla modified it.
  3. Choose a time to restore.
  4. Click on Confirmation.

Google contacts export contacts

To add your contacts to another email account, first download them as a CSV or vCard file. To free up memory, export and the contacts you don't need.

  1. Go to .
  2. To choose contacts, check the boxes next to the names.
  3. Click on Other Export.
  4. To back up your contacts, select the Google CSV format.
  5. To save the file, click Export.

Check your automatically saved contacts

If you send an email to someone who is not in your contacts, Google Contacts automatically saves that person's email address in the “Other contacts” group. The next time you send an email to the same person, their address will be displayed.

Stop automatic saving of contacts

  1. Open on a computer.
  2. At the top right, click Settings   Settings.
  3. In the "Create contacts for autocomplete" section, select "I add contacts myself".
  4. At the bottom, click "Save Changes".
