If you've ever searched for travel on Google, you've probably come across Google Travel. Here's everything you need to know about it and how it works.
Over the course of the 21st century, the number of online services that help people book travel has grown significantly. And in an effort to help users manage and book their adventures more efficiently, Google created Google Travel. Google Travel is relatively underutilized but has a lot to offer. The web app lets you book flights, search for inspiration, and more.
So what exactly is Google Travel? How does it work and what can you do with the platform? Let's take a closer look and answer all these questions.
What is Google Travel
Google Travel is an app that allows users to book trips and manage itineraries. The Silicon Valley giant introduced the service in 2016, and you may have heard of it earlier when it was known as Google Trips.
Unlike many other Google apps, including Drive and Docs, you can't download Google Travel as a standalone mobile app for your smartphone. Instead, you will need to use it in your web browser; you can do it from your phone, desktop or tablet. Google Travel is free, but you will need a Google account.
What you can do with Google Travel
Ok, now you have a better idea of what Google Travel is and how you can sign up for the platform. So what can you do about it? Below, you'll discover seven uses for the service, along with a walkthrough to help you find these features.
Search for flights with Google Travel
Whether you're casually browsing or knowing where you want to go, flight search is easy with Google Travel. You can easily change the dates you want to travel, as well as set the travel duration in your search.
When, you can customize your search using different parameters. These include:
- Connecting the airports you want to use
- The time of day you wish to travel for all stages of the journey
- The airlines you want to fly with
You can also search for flights based on baggage allowance and more.
To search for flights on Google Travel, you need to go to the Flights tab. This is the third from the bottom. Once you are there, you can customize your search to suit your needs.
Keep track of prices
Getting the best deal when traveling has gotten more complicated for several reasons. There are countless comparison sites, while it's also hard to know if the prices you see are too high for that time of year or not.
Fortunately, Google Travel helps you get better value for money with a couple of neat tools. The first is a small tab that you will find under “Best departing flights”, which shows you whether the cost of the air ticket is typical or not for the time you want to travel.
You can also use the date grid and price chart closest to the top of the screen. Both will show you how much air tickets cost for the period you are traveling compared to the next few days.
In addition to the above features, you can also activate the option Track prices . When you do, you will receive email updates whenever prices go up or down. You can access all these tools from the tab He likes.
In addition to flights, you can also check hotel prices. To do this, go to the Hotel tab and tap the How much will you pay button.
Search for inspiration and set your travel search parameters
For many people, booking each part of the trip helps to tailor it better to their needs. If you're one of these people, you'll be happy to know that Google Travel allows you to tweak several options to make sure your search results are more tailored to your needs.
You can create better trips using the feature Interests , which allows you to choose destinations based on the type of vacation you want, such as skiing or the great outdoors. You can access this tab by selecting Explore to the left.
Another way to personalize your trip is to decide how you want to travel. Google Travel allows you to choose the plane or the car and you can make this choice by accessing the tab Travel arrangements, also in Explore.
Once you are ready to plan your trip, you can use Google Travel to create the final itinerary. When you start a new adventure on the platform, you can add pretty much everything from flights to places you want to eat.
If you book your flights and accommodations through Google Travel, your confirmations will be added to your itinerary.
In addition to adding your own plans, you can also use this section to inform yourself about your destination. Google shows you the frequently asked questions, along with the average temperatures for the time of year you plan to visit.
Once you have created a new trip, you can also find articles you have consulted about the destination online. If you think these would be useful, you can press the bookmarks tab to save them. And if you haven't started your search yet, Google will attract popular resources to help you get information and inspiration.
To add a new trip, go to the tab Travel and select Create trip.
Book Hotel on Google Travel
Of course, you can't plan a trip somewhere and not have a place to stay. Like flights, you can book hotels via the Google Travel interface.
When looking for hotels, you can filter your search by price and the number of people who will participate in the trip. If you prefer some hotel brands over others, you can choose to show only the options you prefer.
Other ways to filter your hotel search include:
- Offers included
- Amenities, such as free, child-friendly Wi-Fi
- The class / rating of the hotel
You can also use this feature to book hostels and guesthouses. To start booking your accommodation, you will need to access the Hotel tab. When you are there, you can customize as you see fit.
Property for rent
If you are not interested in staying in a hotel, you can find private vacation homes through Google Travel. You will see several options, such as:
- Guest house
Like hotels, you can also browse by the services you want, your price range and more.
To rent properties instead of hotels, click on the section Holiday houses . After that, you can make any changes you think are necessary.
Go to now and look for your new trip.
