SSDs are meant to be fast, but sometimes things slow them down. Here's how to fix a slow SSD on Windows 11.

Windows 11 is packed with exciting new changes that significantly revolutionize the Windows operating system. However, among other issues, many users have complained that their SSDs performed slower since upgrading to Windows 11. Microsoft has since released an update to remedy the slow SSD performance issue on Windows 11.


If you have also recently upgraded to Windows 11 and have noticed a drop in SSD performance, you will need to try some fixes to increase SSD performance. Read on as we walk you through fixing a slow SSD on Windows 11 systems.


How to fix a slow SSD via Windows Update

Since the release of Windows 11, there have been many complaints from users who have encountered problems with slow performance of NVMe SSDs. To fix this, Microsoft has released Windows 5007262 update KB11. The Windows update patch has helped resolve SSD performance issues for many users.

The KB5007262 update was released towards the end of 2021, so you may or may not already have it installed on your system. We recommend that you check your Windows Update history before proceeding further.

If you haven't installed update KB5007262, here's how you can download the patch to fix a slow Windows 11 SSD via Windows Update:

  • Launch the menu Home , search for Settings and click on the best match.
  • From the sidebar, click Windows Update .
  • click on Check for updates and once the updates are retrieved, check if the KB5007262 update is listed. Windows 11 will automatically install the update, if available, and you should be good to go.
  • Once the installation process is complete, click Restart now for the changes to take effect.

If you have not received the KB5007262 update automatically, you will need to manually download it from Make sure you download the x64 version of the update



Once the update is downloaded, install it and, when prompted, reboot the system.

Disable startup programs to speed up your SSD

If you have already installed the KB5007262 update patch, you will need to tweak a few things to get your SSD working again. Reducing the number of apps launched on startup can significantly impact SSD performance and startup speed.


To disable startup apps, simply right-click on the menu Home and click Task Manager . Then click on the tab Start and disable all unnecessary apps.

Enable quick start

To enable fast boot on Windows 11 and increase SSD performance:

  • Open the Panel control from the menu Start .
  • click on Hardware and sound select Energy saving options , so choose what the power button does .
  • click on Change settings currently unavailable .
  • In Shutdown settings , make sure the checkbox Enable quick start is enabled.
  • Finally, click Save Changes for the changes to take effect.
