How to prevent videos from starting automatically in Chrome. Autoplay videos are awful. Nobody likes them, and I honestly don't understand why this continues to be something that happens on the web. Thankfully, if you're a Chrome user, you can easily prevent this from happening.

Unfortunately, this isn't a click-click-enable type of functionality - it's currently hidden in Chrome's flags menu. This is where Google hides the experimental features and things that aren't ready for prime time yet.

How to prevent videos from starting automatically in Chrome

Just open a new Chrome tab and type the following into the address bar:

chrome://flags/#autoplay-policy

Press Enter. Once the flag page is open, use the drop-down menu to choose “User Activation Document Required” and restart the browser.

From now on, autoplay videos will no longer start.
