To set up two-step verification via your smartphone and use it as a security key, you need to log in with the same Google account on your computer and smartphone.

Then on your computer open the Chrome Browser and log in with your Google credentials by clicking on the little man icon at the top right.

Once done, check that you are using the same account on your Android smartphone. If not, you can add it this way.

Open the Google app from the apps menu. Tap your profile photo in the top right corner. If the profile you want to link is listed, click on it. If not, tap Add another account. You should now see a message appear on your Android smartphone indicating that a login was made using your Google account on a device. Tap the button Yes I'm logged in!

This last step on your smartphone will cause your Google account to complete the login.

This verification process will be done on any device you use with your Google account from now on. No one will be able to access your account even knowing the password on a new device if you don't confirm access through two-factor authentication with your smartphone.
