Recently, Microsoft lost its share in the browser market due to Google Chrome and other browsers. To regain lost market share, Microsoft has developed the new Microsoft Edge Browser. It was the new default browser in Windows 10 and replaces the old Internet Explorer. While some of the code is still based on Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge has numerous improvements, both visual and internal. It includes a new rendering engine, improved html5 support, cortana support, download manager, etc. It also offers impressive performance. Despite all of this, users complain a lot about Edge. There have always been little hitches that keep users away. Thanks to the Insider Preview program, Microsoft can now address potential problems with its products.

Moving on to the small setbacks, among all I would like to point out the one that haunts me the most, that is every time I click on the download link, automatically starts downloading the content without the user's approval. Google Chrome also appears to do the same. Many users have complained about this ever since the edge first appeared.

As a result, in the latest builds of the Windows 10 Insider Preview, Microsoft finally rolled out the feature to stop it. Starting with Windows 10 build 14257, you can configure Microsoft Edge to ask for permission whenever you want to download something.

Here's how to do it.

How to enable Ask Before Download

Step 1: Open Microsoft Edge Browser.

Step 2: Go to the next location in the edge browser by pasting the path below into the address bar.

edge://settings/downloads

Step 3: Now turn on Ask where to save each file before downloading it Option

Since you've enabled the feature now, Microsoft Edge will now display a confirmation window every time you click on the downloadable content. By clicking the 'Save' button, the file will be saved to the default download location, which is drive C> Users> {username}> Downloads. To download to a different location, click “Save As” and choose the location according to your needs. And if you don't want to download the file, click "Cancel" and you're good to go.

Thanks to the Insider Preview program, users can now request their features and suggestions. We are finally seeing a good overall improvement on the Windows platform. Thaks all for reading. Stay tuned to find out more!
