Microsoft always tries to make Windows easy to use in all respects. Windows 10 is a clear example of this. It has a ton of new features, along with old features with a pinch. But they also removed some features. If you've ever played a DVD in Windows 7 or Windows 8 / 8.1, you may have noticed Windows Media Center on it. Well, it's not included in Windows 10. We know that not many people use CDs or DVDs these days, but we should at least have a choice. Microsoft has removed built-in DVD support from Windows 8 and Windows 10. You can still play DVD video in Windows 8. What about Windows 10? How to play DVD in Windows 10? You can still play DVD in Windows 10.

You can still play DVDs in Windows 10. You will need to download and use a DVD playback application. There is a DVD player licensed by Microsoft and there are other options as well. Read the methods below to play DVD on Windows 10.
Solution 1: use VLC Media Player
If you have updated your computer's Windows 10 from Windows 7 or Windows 8 / 8.1 with Windows Media Center, you will find a new Windows DVD Player application. You may not even find it on your computer. Without worries. You can download it for free from the Windows Store. So, in my suggestion, use the VideoLAN VLC media player. It is completely free and easy to use. Just don't download this player from Windows Store, because it doesn't support DVD or Blu-ray.
Step 1 - Download VLC player app desktop version.
Step 2 - After installing the VLC player, just insert the DVD into the DVD drive and open the VLC player.
3 pass - Click on Media and select Open disk. This will play the DVD.
If you can't play DVD by this method, please try the next method.
Solution 2: Update the DVD drive driver
Even after installing a DVD player application, if the DVD cannot be played, the DVD drive driver may not be updated. In this method, we will update the driver for the DVD drive. Follow the steps mentioned below to do that.
Step 1. Right-click the Start menu button and select Device Administrator.
Step 2. In the Device Manager window, expand DVD / CD-ROM unit. Here you will see the name of your DVD player. Right-click on it and select Update Driver.
Step 3. Please select Automatically searches for updated driver software. This will download and install the latest driver for the DVD drive.
Step 4. Restart your computer.
This should fix the problem.
Solution 3 - yes I can't find the DVD drive in Device Manager
If you can't find the DVD drive name in DVD / CD-ROM Drive in Device Manager, please follow this method. We will edit the registry with this method. So, don't forget to backup the registry and then proceed with this method.
Step 1. Go to Cortana and type System Symbol. Right-click on System Symbol from the results and select Run as administrator.
Step 2. In the Command Prompt window, type the following command and then press Enter.
reg.exe add “HKLMSystemCurrentControlSetServicesatapiController0” /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001
Step 3. Restart your computer.
Solution 4: use the registry editor
1. Press Windows key and R key. together from the keyboard to open run box.
2. Now write regedit on it and click ok.
3. Now, before proceeding, don't forget to back up your registry.
Now go to the following path in the registry editor.
4. On the right hand side if you can locate it UpperFilters o LowerFilters, just right click on them and delete them.
If they don't exist, you don't have to do anything. Just close the registry editor.
5. After removing both, close the registry editor and start again PERSONAL COMPUTER.
You can now find the DVD drive in Device Manager. If you still can't find it, you can go ahead and purchase the paid version from Microsoft DVD Player from Microsoft Store here.
The cable connecting the DVD-ROM drive does not work or the DVD-ROM drive needs to be replaced. Contact the device manufacturer or simply take your computer to an authorized service center to have it repaired.
