Windows 10 introduced a new mobile hotspot setup last year that allows you to share your PC or laptop's web connection with other devices. In fact, this is a useful feature that helps you browse the web even while on the go.
However, you can activate the feature directly from the Settings app, by activating Share my internet connection with other devices, it may not work many times. For example, every time you try to activate the function, you may see an error message " We cannot set up a mobile hotspot". However, the good news is that it can be fixed. Let's see how.
Method 1: use Device Manager
Step 1: press the Windows key + X together on the keyboard and click Device administrator in the context menu.
Step 2: A Device administrator window, scroll down and select Network card. Now, click on the file View tab at the top of the window and click Show hidden devices in the context menu.
Step 3: Now enable all available virtual adapters. Right-click on each of the virtual adapters and click Enable in the context menu.
Here we first right clicked Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter and clicked Enable to activate the controller.
Now repeat the same process with the other virtual adapters. For example, we also enable Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter No. 2.
Now turn on the Share my internet connection with other devices and it should work fine. If the problem persists, try the second method.
Method 2: updating the drivers
Step 1: Again, right-click on each virtual adapter and click Update Driver in the context menu.
Step 2: Now click Automatically searches for updated driver software and it will start searching for the latest driver.
Step 3: Wait for it to finish searching for the latest driver.
Once finished, it will automatically update the driver to the latest version. Repeat the same procedure with the second adapter - Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter No. 2. Also, update the driver in the same way for Realtek PCIe FE family controller.
That's it and the mobile hotspot feature should work perfectly and no longer show any errors.
