You may no longer be using a Windows 10 account and have now created a new account with all the new credentials. This means that the fingerprint configured for Windows Hello in the old account will not be valid for the new account for obvious reasons. However, if you still try to use the same fingerprint for the new account, you will get a Windows Hello error "That fingerprint has already been set up on another account. Try another finger."
For starters, Windows Hello is a security feature that allows you to sign in with your fingerprint on devices that support the fingerprint sensor. So the fingerprint is account specific. When switching accounts and trying the same fingerprint, an error will be generated because the fingerprint may already be saved in the BIOS / UEFI. However, this problem can be solved. Let's see how.
Method 1: removing the BIOS fingerprint
Sometimes, even if you delete an account, your fingerprints tend to be stored in the BIOS (due to some OEMs) and therefore cannot be reused. To do this, first check in your system's BIOS if the fingerprint is stored and then proceed to disable it.
Let's see how
Step 1: Turn off your computer and, after a couple of seconds, restart your PC. Start pressing the button F2 as soon as the instructions appear on the computer screen during startup. BIOS menu.
Step 2: Look for the Fingerprint option on yours BIOS menu and disable it and delete all fingerprint data.
Now reboot your system normally.
If this helps remove the fingerprint data, you can go ahead and create the same fingerprint for the new account, but if not, you need to download third party security software that can help you remove the fingerprint ( depending on whoever the OEM is).
This should help you set up a fingerprint for Windows Hello, using the same finger for the new account, but if you don't, try the second method.
Method 3: Uninstall the fingerprint settings and add them again
Most likely (albeit minimal) it is that the entire fingerprint device is not configured correctly or that something has gone wrong. So it would be better to completely remove the device and reinstall it with your Microsoft account.
Step 1: Log in to your Microsoft bill.
Step 2: Go to Microsoft devices section.
Step 3: Find the fingerprint device and select it to remove it.
This will re-verify your account on the device and add it again.
This can help fix the Windows Hello error "That fingerprint has already been set up on another account. Try another finger. If the problem persists, try the third method.
Method 3: delete files from WinBioDatabase
You can test it in case the OEM doesn't save anything on your security device.
Step 1: press the Win + R keys together on the keyboard to open the file Run command.
Step 2: A Run command search box, type services.msc and press ok to open the file Services window.
Step 3: A Services window, go to Your name right column and scroll down to locate the file Windows biometric service.
4 phase: Right-click on Windows biometric service and select Stop in the context menu to stop the service.
Step 5: Now press Win + X keys together on the keyboard and from the context menu select Browser on file.
Step 6: A Browser on file window, go to the following path:
C:WindowsSystem32WinBioDatabase
Once you are inside the WinBioDatabase folder, copy all the DAT files and paste them into a different folder, then delete all the DAT files from this source folder.
Step 7: Now go back to Services window as explained above. Go to Windows biometric service, right click on it and click Home in the context menu.
Now restart your PC and try setting up your Windows Hello fingerprint with the new account and it should work fine. However, if you keep getting the error then you can try the fourth method.
Method 4: delete another account's fingerprint
Most likely, your fingerprint is associated with another account and you no longer remember it. This is because it is possible to add fingerprints to multiple accounts; however, this can create confusion and conflict between the two accounts.
In these cases, you can completely delete the other account if you no longer use it, or you can choose to remove the fingerprint from that account. This should fix your fingerprint problem and you should no longer see the error, but if the error persists then follow the fifth method.
Method 5: reset the fingerprint driver
If that doesn't work, this is the ultimate solution, where you need to uninstall the fingerprint driver and reinstall it. This would give you a new controller to work with.
Solution 1: via the settings app
Step 1: press the Window key + I together on the keyboard to start the file settings window.
Step 2: A settings window, click Accounts.
Step 3: A Accounts page, select Record options on the left side of the window.
4 phase: Now go to the right side of the panel and under the file Manage how you log into your device section, go to Windows Hello fingerprint.
Step 5: Please select Windows Hello fingerprint and press the button To remove button below it.
Step 6: Then click Home and follow the instructions to finally restore the file Fingerprint device.
Restart your PC and you can now successfully create a Windows Hello fingerprint for your new account. Alternatively, you can try solution 2.
Solution 2: via Device Manager
Step 1: Navigate to Home in the lower left corner of the desktop, right-click and select Device administrator give the menu answer.
Step 2: A Device administrator locate the window Biometric devices and click the arrow next to it to expand the section.
Step 3: Now, select your fingerprint driver software, right click on it and select Uninstall in the context menu.
Now restart your PC and reinstall the fingerprint device software again. Once done, you need to set up your fingerprint driver and check if you can now add your fingerprint to the new account's Windows Hello.
That's all. You should now be able to successfully create your Windows Hello fingerprint and log into your Windows system.
