With many cutting-edge features and regular updates to keep your computer safe and running at its best, Windows 10 is the best version of Windows to date. While there is no doubt about its effectiveness and popularity, the operating system has a number of problems, such as slow performance after a few updates, crashes and even errors. One of those annoying mistakes is "The system cannot find the specified file"Error.

You usually come across this error when accessing certain files. It can be scary because no one in your wildest dreams can think about losing important data. There could be reasons why you should see this error, such as missing device drivers, invalid keys in the registry, incorrect file resolution, missing or faulty system files, network problems, disk errors in the source volume etc.



However, the good news is that this error can be corrected. Let's see how.

Method 1: running Windows Update

Step 1: press the Win + X keys together on the keyboard and select settings from the menu.

Step 2: A settings window, go to Update and security.

Step 3: Takes you directly to Windows update page in settings. Go right and click Look for updates.

If updates are available, they will be downloaded and installed automatically.

Restart your PC to apply updates and try opening a file. You should no longer see the error.

But, if the problem persists, try the next method.

Method 2: using the Windows troubleshooter

Step 1: press the Win + X keys together on the keyboard and select settings from the menu.



Step 2: A settings window, go to Update and security.

Step 3: Then, on the left side of the panel, find Solve problems and click on it.

4 phase: Now go to the right side of the panel, scroll down and click Additional troubleshooting tools.

Step 5: So under the Start section, select Windows update and click Run the troubleshooter button.

Now let the troubleshooter detect the problems. If it finds any problems, it will fix it automatically.

However, if you keep getting the error when you try to open the files then you can follow the method below.


Method 3: Run the System File Checker scan

Step 1: To go Home and in the Windows search bar, type Symbol of the system.

Step 2: Now, right click on the result and select Run as administrator to open the file Symbol of the system in elevated mode.


Step 3: A Symbol of the system window, run the following command and press Log in:

sfc / scannow

Now, let the process get completed as it takes a while to scan the damaged files. If it finds corrupt files, it automatically repairs them.

Once finished, come out Symbol of the system and restart your computer. Now check if you can access the files. But if you keep getting the error then you can try the next method.

Method 4: Delete all files in Software Distribution

SoftwareDistribution is a folder inside the C drive and you need to delete the folders inside it. Let's see how

Step 1: Right click on Home and select Browser on file from the menu.

Step 2: A Browser on file, go to the left side of the window and click What PC shortcut.

Then go to the right side of the panel and select to open the file Unit C.

Step 3: Now follow the path below to enter the file Software distribution binder:

C: Windows SoftwareDistribution

Now press Ctrl + A keyboard shortcut key to select all contents within this folder and press To remove.

Once completed, make sure to restart your computer and then try to open the files showing the error. The error should go away and you should be able to open the file now.
