How to manage downloads in Windows 10: - One of the most common things we do while browsing is downloading, of course. From songs to movies to ISO files, the list is endless. There is anything and everything that happens in our long list of items to download. It can be quite frustrating if we have no idea where our downloaded files are saved. Even more frustration can be due to a failed download. Read on to learn how to efficiently manage and troubleshoot download problems.



Default download location in Windows 10

  • All downloaded files are stored in the Downloads folder in Windows 10 by default. To see your download folder, just run the File Navigator and find the download folder in the left pane of the window. You can click on it to see all downloaded files.

  • Or you can just type download into Cortana's search box and hit Pay In. They will be happy to help you find your downloads.

How to add a link to the download folder in the Start menu

You can also add a shortcut to your download folder in the Home menu for quick access. Follow the steps below to get the same.
1 STEP

  • Click on Start menu and then on option settings as shown in the screenshot.

2 STEP

  • When the settings application starts, click on the option called Personalization.

PHASE 3

  • Now from the left panel of the Personalization window, find and click on the option called Start. In the right pane, click the link that says Choose which folders appear on Start.

  • This is where you can decide which folders you want to see on the Start icon. To add the download link to your home menu folder, simply activate the toggle button corresponding to download as shown in the screenshot.

  • Now if you click on your Start menu icon, you will see that a link to download The folder has been successfully added to your Start menu.

How to change Google Chrome's default download location

1 STEP

  • Launch Google Chrome and click More Actions in the upper right corner of the Chrome window. In the expandable menu, click the download option.

2 STEP

  • You will be able to see all the downloaded files if you have done the previous step correctly.

PHASE 3

  • To change the default download location in Chrome, you need to click settings from the More Actions menu as in the first step. Once the settings page opens, just type download in the search box and hit Pay In. Look for a section called downloads. There you can change the default download location for the files. If you'd rather have different download locations for different downloads, you can select the checkbox that says Ask where to save each file before downloading.



Reasons why downloads fail and troubleshooting tips

Antivirus

  • Your antivirus may be preventing the download from running. While it is not recommended to disable the antivirus, if you are so sure you know what you are dealing with, you can try disabling the antivirus to continue the download.

Firewall

  • Another important factor for a failed download is your Windows Firewall. If you get a warning that the file you are trying to download is malicious, try looking for another source to download. You also have the option to disable the Windows firewall, although this is not recommended.

SmartScreen filter

  • SmartScreen Filter windows prevents you from downloading malicious programs. It also prevents you from visiting a potentially malicious site. Click here to disable this feature. Again, it is highly recommended not to do this.
