What is Skype

Would you like to call and video call your friends who live far from you at no cost? If you've heard of Skype, Microsoft's service, but don't know exactly what it is, it's time to deepen the subject. Find out what Skype is and how it works.

What is Skype and how it works

What is Skype? This is a free service from Microsoft that allows you to stay in touch with all your friends who live abroad at no cost.
It can be used both from a PC and from a smartphone, tablet or smartphone and is easy to use.

How does Skype work? Once you have downloaded the software from the official website https://www.skype.com/it/ you will need to create your account.
At the first launch of Skype, after logging in (by entering your username and password), the contacts in your Microsoft account will be synchronized and will be visible in the Contacts section that you will find on the left.

You will see icons next to the contacts colored in a different color: the green dots indicate that the user is online on Skype and is available for conversation, the yellow ones indicate that the user is not at the computer, while the red dots indicate that the user is busy and will not receive notifications about conversations. There is also the Invisible option, which is used to use Skype without showing yourself online to contacts.

Each account also has a status. If you want to set yours, just click on the item Skype from the bar at the top and then on the item Online status from the drop-down menu.

To add a new contact, simply click on the Contacts item from the sidebar, then on the wording Add a contact and finally on Search in the Skype directory. At this point, using the text field located in the left sidebar, type the name of the person you want to add to Skype and press the button Add contacts you see on the screen.
